About the Marine Corps League
The mission of the Marine Corps League is to promote the interest and to preserve traditions of the United States Marine Corps; strengthen the fraternity of Marines and their families; serve Marines and FMF Navy Personnel who wear or who have worn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor; and foster the ideals of Americanism and patriotic volunteerism.
About LCpl Squire "Skip" Wells MCL Det 647
The LCpl Squire "Skip" Wells Marine Corps League Detachment 647 is a community-focused veteran service organization based in Marietta, Georgia. Originally chartered in 1982 as the Greater Atlanta Marine Corps League Detachment 647, we have spent over four decades serving the Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and Fleet Chaplains of the North Georgia area.
Our mission is to uphold the traditions of the United States Marine Corps while providing vital support to our local community and fellow veterans. In 2016, we proudly renamed our detachment to honor the life and heroic sacrifice of Lance Corporal Squire “Skip” Wells, a Marietta native and Sprayberry High School graduate who gave his life in defense of his fellow Marines during the 2015 Chattanooga attack.
Today, we honor Skip’s legacy through active service—from coordinating local Toys for Tots drives and awarding scholarships to providing Honor Guards for our fallen brothers and sisters. Whether you are a Marine looking for the camaraderie of the “Old Corps” or a community member looking to support those who served, we invite you to join us in our mission.
